We analyzed the two recent studies released by SEMrush and Seozoom on the ranking factors that most influence the positioning of a particular site in organic search and compared the results. They are both decidedly interesting and very detailed studies that examine dozens of elements that influence positioning. In this article I have analyzed only the factors common to the two studies to highlight their salient characteristics and differences.SEMrush: Ranking Factors 2.0In the SEMrush study, 600,000 keywords were analysed, for which the first 100 pages positioned in the Google SERP were examined . The aim of this research was to identify the factors that have a weight in the positioning of a website , measuring their influence depending on the search volume of the keyword considered. To understand the importance of these factors, a particular
algorithm called Random Forest was applied . Furthermore, different Special Data aspects were analyzed for each page: on-page factors, backlink profiles and traffic data.To carry out a more detailed analysis, the results were grouped by the potential traffic volume of the keywords as positioning on high volume keywords can actually have different causes than niche keywords. Four groups have been defined ow volume keywords (1 -100)Medium volume keywords (101 -1,000)High volume keywords (1,001 -10,000)Ultra High Volume Keywords (10,000+)SeoZoom: Ranking FactorsStarting from an analysis conducted on a sample of approximately 500,000 pages and from a subset of specific keywords subsequently grouped by search volume , the first ten results , those on the first page of Google's SERP , were examined . The results were then divided into two groups, the first three which are identified as " Top 3 " and the next seven, which cover the results from the fourth to the tenth position, identified as " Last 7 ". The main aim of this research was to identify common factors between neighboring locations .SEO and content lengthHow much the length of content actually influences the positioning of a page is a topic still widely discussed. However, web experts generally agree on the fact that beyond all text , to have an optimal result from an SEO point of view, it must be relevant to the user's
search and offer valid content . Both tools, however, have identified some interesting aspects on the correlation between text length and SERP positioning .The length of the content according to SEMrushAlthough the relevance and quality of a text is of fundamental importance, one of the first things that influence the user's opinion is the length of the content . It has been proven that a longer text gives the impression of being more reliable and accurate .The SEMrush team's intention was to see if there was a correlation between content length and page ranking in search results . To calculate this correlation, the average content length of the top ten pages positioned for the 600,000 keywords was calculated . The results were reported for the four keyword volume groups. In the graph below, data was then presented only for the first twenty positions, noting that the trend remained the same for all subsequent positions without obvious variations.
